SSL (Secure Socket Layer)
features:
- uses a public key encryption to make sure the data is securely transmitted in both direction via the internet
- used as https to indicate to the web browser that the HTTP protocol is used with SSL protocol
- most web browsers display a small padlock icon in their status bar
typical use:
- used for web pages that need the data to be secure - e.g) Internet banking, the customer web browser has to connect to the banks web server where all their bank details are kept
