What is a blog?
- A website or web page containing experiences, observations, opinions and links of an individual or group.
- A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger" (source)
- Examples of popular blog making websites include Blogger, Tumblr, LiveJournal and WordPress; established blogs include TMZ, Zoella (Beauty and Fashion blog), and The Huffington Post.
Impact on communication systems:
- It allows for quick and easy communication between people all around the world; bloggers can express opinions through their blog posts and readers can add their own thoughts and opinions through the comment section featured on most blog posts.
- Blogging is seen to create a more personal relationship between the blogger and it's audience
- Because of this it is now used for many marketing and advertising campaigns to easily garner support from the mass audience. Such as when Barack Obama used twitter during his election campaign.
- Blog posts are transmitted through uploading a post onto a blog website, and is put on the internet for all to see. It is then received by the audience who reads and possibly responds to the blog posts.
- It has enhanced usage of wireless transmission, as many people access and create blogs all around the world, even when travelling and therefore uses mediums such as WiFi and satellite technology.
